Men’s Group
We meet for a pint or two at the George Washington Public House on the first Monday of the month. Any men are welcome to imbibe in good ale, sandwiches and excellent company.
Crafty Ladies
Crafty ladies meet once a month to enjoy friendship and fellowship and to make crafts to sell for church funds. Many ideas are shared as we learn from one another and enjoy good company.
Walsingham Cell Group
A small number of our people regularly make pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. We share a cell group with our neighbouring parish of Carnforth and meet regularly for devotional and social gatherings.
Altar Servers
We have a good team of Altar Servers who assist during services, helping us to maintain a high standard of liturgy at St Oswald’s. Most of our servers are senior school age, and this activity helps to keep our young people together.
Retreats, Quiet Days and Pilgrimages.
We have an annual quiet day, usually at the Monastery of Our Lady of Hyning, and have enjoyed a variety of leaders over the years. New to our parish our bi-monthly “Monday Retreats”, a few hours retreat based around the Eucharist, lunch and a visiting speaker. A number of our people have recently returned from a pilgrimage to Assisi, and we are planning a pilgrimage in the steps of the Northern Saints for next year. Some of our young people are preparing for a pilgrimage to Lindisfarne next summer.
Flower Arranging
We have a group of talented people who arrange flowers in church both Sunday by Sunday and for special occasions such as weddings.
We are presently planning for a flower festival next June.
